London has been named the World’s Best City. Though we could have told you that

It’s no surprise that London has been named the World’s Best City in the 2023 World’s Best City rankings powered by Resonance.

Though we do have to acknowledge that the extraordinary and ever-brave Kyiv took out the Honorary Top Spot, London came out as the clear leader against the rest of the world across six ‘p’ related categories: place, product, programming, people, prosperity and promotion. This methodology measures the quality of one city to the next by examining key factors that citizens, and business influencers consider most important in choosing cities to live, visit and invest in. These include crime, climate, wages, infrastructure, tax rates, schooling, cultural and hospitality attractions, and housing.

We had a think and wanted to add our own reckons about why we think London is the best city in the world..

The parks

London may be a big, urbane, high-density city but the parks (oh, the parks!) are lovely! Regent’s Park, Hyde Park, Richmond Park, Victoria Park, Hampstead Heath, Primrose Hill, Kennington Gardens – there are so many to choose from. And no matter where you live, there is one relatively close by. Many have food stalls, weekend markets, or even just a great pub around the edge, and they provide an excellent escape for those living in nearby apartments without an outdoor area. In the summer, they bustle with locals unashamedly tanning in their beach/pool attire, and in the winter, they’re equally busy with those wrapped in winter coats getting their step count up.

The pubs

Pubs are a community staple across much of the UK, and they are particularly prevalent in London. They are meeting places for a hot Sunday roast in the winter and a cold beer in the summer, and you’ll find that every postcode has at least one pub. Though we have an East London bias, our favourites include: The Crown Islington (the pork belly roast has to be the best in London!); The Cat and Mutton on Broadway Market; Scolt Head Tavern in De Beauvoir; and Howl at the Moon in Hoxton for their incredible Sunday afternoon fiddle group performances.

Public transport

If anyone ever tells you that you need a car in London, they are absolutely and categorically incorrect! It has to be one of the world’s easiest cities to get around (and out of). It’s well-connected to villages and cities elsewhere in the UK, and all 5+ airports are relatively accessible by public transport. The TfL limit of £7.40 a day within zones 1-3 also makes getting around relatively affordable if you’re regularly on the go.

Gigs galore

If you’re into music and seeing it live, London has a never-ending stream of artists swinging by on tour and an incredible array of local talent. There is something for everyone’s tastes. There are also some of the world’s best venues, including Brixton Academy, Printworks, Royal Albert Hall, not to mention Wembley Stadium and Ally Pally (Alexandra Palace). Even if you’re passing through London for a short period, you’ll always find something that will tickle your fancy.

If you’re considering moving to London and this doesn’t help make your mind up, we don’t know what will. All we can say is that it’s a great place to live and very deserving of its top spot.
