Checklist

Moving abroad may seem difficult, but really it’s just a case of following some simple steps. Here we give you a straightforward checklist to help keep your move on track.

  1. Choose a moving date

  2. Gather your required documents including a bank statement that shows you’ve had £2,530 for over 28 days and a passport with at least one blank page (and at least a year until it expires)

  3. Apply for your visa through gov.uk

  4. Pay for your visa and NHS surcharge

  5. Attend your biometrics appointment at your nearest consulate

  6. Visa success! Book your flights

  7. Make sure you have enough savings to last you for your travel + six weeks in London (and a flat bond!)

  8. Change your AU/NZ bank account mailing address to a UK address and get a statement mailed there (this will give you proof of a local address that makes setting up bank accounts easier)

  9. Sign up to Next Stop to start early conversations with London recruiters

  10. Get on that plane

  11. Arrive in UK

  12. Get a UK phone number

  13. Collect BRP from nominated address

  14. Apply for a bank account

  15. Apply for your NIN

  16. Register with a local GP

  17. Start your flat hunt

  18. Head to job interviews

  19. Find your favourite local pub and treat yourself to a pint - you made it!!
